Every figure below is a fact read from a store listing or a developer page on the date above. Nothing is estimated.
Where a subscription price is not visible on Google Play, we say so instead of guessing. Google Play shows a range of in-app prices, not the monthly or yearly figure.
We do not rank by "quality". We list what each one is, what it costs and what its users complain about — then you pick.

What the reviews actually complain about

Across the widget-first apps, the same four complaints recur in Play reviews. These are the things worth checking before you commit to one:

AI Verse Widget is a widget-first Android app. What that means in practice, stated plainly:

The Bible text is included and works offline. We ship the Berean Standard Bible, which is in the public domain, so there is no download step and no account.
No account, no sign-in. Subscriptions are handled by Google Play; we never see your payment details.
Ads exist in the free version and only there. They sit in a fixed-height slot at the bottom of the app, never inside the reading view and never on the widget. Subscribing stops the ad SDK from being initialised at all.
One widget size rule: the smallest size shows at most three lines of verse, because anything longer gets cut into a half-sentence. We would rather shorten the verse than ship a broken line.
We are new. We have no ratings yet, and we are not going to pretend otherwise. If that matters to you, pick one of the established apps above first — several are free and good.

Which Bible widget apps are completely free?

DailyVerses and YouVersion have no ads and no in-app purchases according to their Play listings (checked 18 Sep 2026). Both offer a widget. If your only requirement is "free and no ads", start there.

Do I need an account to use a Bible widget?

No. A widget is drawn by the Android launcher from data stored on your phone, so it can work without any account at all. Some apps ask you to sign in for syncing and reading plans, but that is a separate feature.

Why do some Bible widgets stop updating?

Android caps how frequently a home-screen widget may refresh — the documented minimum interval for the standard mechanism is 30 minutes, and battery-saving modes can stretch that further. An app claiming instant updates is promising something the platform does not guarantee.

Can I use a Bible widget offline?

Yes, if the translation is bundled with the app rather than fetched from a server. Public-domain translations such as the KJV, the World English Bible and the Berean Standard Bible can legally be shipped inside an app, which is what we do.
